The Modern Pantry is hiring for the following positions:

Prep and line cook
Baker
Barista / Customer service

We're a from-scratch bakery and cafe serving light meals, interesting pastries, awesome coffee, and quality beer and wine. We also have a thriving and quickly expanding catering arm of the business which is

Job descriptions for each role:

Prep cook - availability daytime and evening

The ideal candidate has kitchen experience and thrives on working quickly under pressure and executing to a high standard.

Everything is made in house. The team is hard working and lovely to be around. And we have a really good time while putting out a really good product.

Requirements:

Availability a minimum Thursday and Friday afternoon/ evening with preference for those also wanting weekend shifts

Front of house - daytime availability with a minimum of one opening and one closing shift per week

Hours are between 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM every day. Additional in-house events occur occasionally in the evenings and we have an evening dinner service 2 days per week in the Spring/ Summer.

All staff must be available for a minimum of one opening shift and one weekend day per week. Preference will be given to those available on both Saturday and Sunday. Full time and part time applicants will be considered.

We're looking for the following attributes:

– Knowledge of espresso-based drinks and a willingness to learn our techniques

– A positive attitude and strong attention to detail
– An ability to work alone or as an efficient member of a team
– A desire to work with a small and family oriented team, which means pitching in with whatever the project of the day is
– An understanding of health and safety regulations and willingness to take measures to uphold them

Foodsafe Level 1 and Serving it Right are required and must be obtained in the first week of employment if not currently held

Baker - morning shifts starting at 6 AM. Weekend availability including Sunday is a requirement

Are you a morning person with a great attitude? This is probably the perfect job for you.

We're hiring for a morning baker capable of completing the daily bake-off of pastries and breads, setting up the front display, and then working on their list of production jobs before cleaning up their mess and having the afternoon off!

Weekend availability is required with a daily start time of 6AM.

The position would start part time and progress to full time.

Must be self directed and happy to work alone but also share space and work as a team when others arrive at work.

Someone who will enjoy this position has a keen attention to detail but is motivated by finding efficiencies and constantly improving their work flow to be faster. Speed and detail simultaneously.

Must be able to lift 50lbs regularly and be comfortable standing for 8 hours as well as working with professional kitchen equipment.

This is not the same as baking at home, mostly because of the speed professional bakers need to work at. Preference will be given to those with a minimum of 1 year kitchen experience, baking or otherwise.

Please be aware buses to West Van are unreliable and don't arrive early enough so alternate transportation is required. Parking spaces are available for staff.
